TOOELE ARMY DEPOT

HISTORY

Upon being built in 1942, the depot was originally named the Tooele Ordnance Depot (TOD), and opened as a storage depot for war supplies, ammunition, and combat vehicles. In 1949, TOD assumed command of the Deseret Chemical Depot (DCD). In 1962, TOD was renamed to Tooele Army Depot after a significant transition mission from a storage depot to a specialized facility.

TEAD acquired the general supply storage mission from Pueblo Army Depot in Colorado in 1988. Following Base Realignment and Closure in 1993, troop support maintenance and storage missions were relocated but retained its conventional ammunitions logistics support mission. In 2013, TEAD regained additional storage capacity from the now-closed DCD and renamed that location TEAD South. TEAD is a government-owned, government-operated facility.
